Payal Singhal | Lakmé Fashion Week A/W 2016
Payal Singhal showed a collection of dreamy, romantic bridal wear in pastel hues as well in black and white. Fitted kurtas with shoulder cut-outs, dhoti pants, crushed and full lehengas with sleek and flattering blouses - all featuring her signature embroidery. We're finding the new cropped lehenga skirts refreshing. All in all, a fitting collection for the modern bride.
The designer expresses their fascination with art and architecture season after season.
Payal Singhal's current collection titled Pakizah highlighted the pure elements of design from Islamic architecture (as the name suggests, Pakizah means pure in Urdu). The vibe was far from being aureate. Instead, what we saw a bridalwear that was a reassertion of all things beauteous and dreamy, but in fashion so minimalist.
These pieces when worn would surely have people reiterating:
"what a graceful bride she made."
Taking to the ramp as the showstopper was actress Saiyami Kher, who will be seen in an upcoming film Mirzya. The actress donned a rose pink off-the-shoulder choli and lehenga. Love the scalloped details on the hemline and as well as the zardozi work on the ensemble.
The collection kept to a crisp and clean silhouette in fabrics that included silk, raw silk, and mul. The colour palette was quite refreshing: blush pink, ivory white, powder blue, that slowly shift to an elegant black with gold. Pearl to mukaish embroidery in classic patterns helped with stamping the overall look of the garments as dainty and pleasing to the eyes.
The silhouettes were contemporary with the classic appeal; off-the-shoulder cholis, cropped lehengas, high-waisted dhoti pants, tunics with cold shoulder detailing, tunics teamed with ethnic sleeveless jackets, and more. The scalloped detailing appeared on hem, sleeves and necklines of lehengas, cholis and tunics as well as on borders of sarees, lending the garments an uber-feminine touch. Another detailing that helped add to the softness of the collection were the sheer overlays on cholis.
