MYRA’S POWER WOMAN – JAMIE ORR
Jamie Orr is an abstract expressionist artist, born in Ridgewood, New Jersey. After graduating with a double major in Psychology and Visual Arts, she pursued a career as a teacher of children with autism.
Jamie has great passion when it comes to her art, she focuses on building a harmonious relationship between rich colours and textures, which are the defining hallmarks of Jamie's work.
Jamie's work is largely inspired by nature.
"I am drawn to the noticeably beautiful parts of the world, but what really interests me are the intricacies. A mountain from a distance is breathtaking, but the way the light softens the jagged exterior of one individual rock is much more intriguing to me." - Jamie Orr
Jamie takes inspiration from the world around her, she is always scanning the environment being observat to the colours, textures, movements and feelings that are invoked. Noticing the small mundane things like "the texture of chipping paint on a building, or the interesting cracks in a sidewalk. To me, texture adds an element of depth to art that color alone cannot express." - JO
The act of painting is a meditative process.
"When I begin a piece, often times I have no idea where it will end up," the process of creating something beautiful and meaningful. Thats what makes abstract work really freeing, your are able to let go of the fixation on what the outcome should be but to immerse yourself within the moment itself.
In today's fast-paced world, we are often so busy thinking about the next thing on our to-do lists, that we lose touch with ourselves. Jamie create abstract expressionist art for this very reason.
"If viewing my work causes someone to pause just long enough to come back to the present moment and feel something they otherwise would not have, then it has served its purpose."
